Lisa Stair

original?tenant=vbu-digital

Lisa has been active musically for many years in different settings as a teacher, accompanist, children's choir director, and performer.

Throughout college, Lisa was an active member of the Women's Ensemble choir, a saxophonist and section leader for the Marching Bucs, the jazz band, and the concert band. Piano was her major instrument, but she also studied voice and alto saxophone.

With more than 20 years of experience as a teacher, Lisa has helped many students prepare for and participate in a variety of festivals including the MTNA, National Federation of Music Clubs, Sonata Festival, and the Piano Guild where they have received top ratings.

Lisa has served on the board of directors for the Women's Symphony Committee and Suzuki Talent of Appalachia. Ballroom Dance is a more recent musical activity that Lisa is passionate about, and feels that her knowledge of dance enhances her sense of musicality and understanding of different styles of music. Lisa and her husband were division winners at their first competition in 2014 in Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese Waltz. Together they have volunteered to help a number of high school seniors prepare for the Symphony Ball by teaching them and their partners/parents to waltz.

Music has played an important role in her and her family's life. Of all the accomplishments and achievements, one of her greatest musical joys is to hear her daughter who was a college violin scholarship winner and violinist with the Johnson City Symphony, and her pianist son, (and percussionist) perform in their various events.
